Resurrecting Old Websites Back to Life
Branding Copywriting Digital Marketing Graphic Design Web Design Web Development

In the spirit of Halloween, we’re journeying back to the digital cemetery and digging out a few of the past websites that we helped bring back from the dead. As we all know, trends & technology change fast, and web designs are no different. Often, your website is your customer’s first impression of your business and brand. But if your website looks and performs like a lifeless zombie – archaic design, stale content, painfully slow, unresponsive functionality – then it may be time to seriously consider a website redesign. Typically, web designs need updating roughly every 3-5 years, but it really depends on the growth and goals of your business. Below, we take a look at a few past websites that went from scream to dream with the help of our web developer team.

Web Design by Array: Before and After

Grey River Netting

Located in Campbell River, BC, Grey River Netting is an innovative business that designs and manufactures fully-custom, advanced products made from rope, netting, and tarps. Starting as a small local business in 1996, Grey River Netting scaled up its operations to become a leading supplier of custom netting solutions around the globe. With a website that looked like a blast from the past, we connected with their team to create a new custom website that better suited their needs and reflected their premium products.

The homepage had an old-fashioned design that was not on par with the current times. To create the “wow” factor it was desperately needed, we revamped the homepage with a new colour palette and animations to create an engaging and fluid experience that feels like moving waves on the ocean.

We refreshed their logo with a new logo design that feels modern and professional. We replaced the abbreviated wordmark with a hand-drawn icon-style concept inspired by the Turk’s Head knot (AKA a Sailor’s knot).

Lacking a responsive design, the website was not mobile-friendly and did not adapt well to different screen sizes. To breathe new life into the user journey, we developed a fully responsive design with unique custom icons, streamlined navigation, and updated content, including headings and high-converting CTA’s.
The redesign of this website was chosen as a Silver winner in the 2021 Muse Creative Awards and selected as an Honorable Mention in the 2021 Hermes Creative Awards!

Shift Energy Group

From solar panels to EV charging stations, Shift Energy Group provides clean energy solutions for homes and businesses across Canada. As a company that specializes in innovative, sustainable technology, they needed a more energetic, cutting-edge website that better matched the personality of their brand.

The original homepage felt static and did not match the tone Shift wanted to convey. We redesigned the homepage with an inviting full-width video that showcases Shift’s collection of solar products. Positioned down the homepage, users scroll through custom animated illustrations that engage the eyes and lead them to calls to action.

Shift had three primary audiences they were trying to target but lacked the right messaging. To attract the right people to the correct content, we crafted a brand voice that could adapt to each demographic directly, reorganized the information architecture, and paired it with a conversion-focus layout.

Shift’s old website looked like it had great content users wanted to read, but users just couldn’t find what they wanted. To improve the user experience, we fully optimized the content with SEO tactics to ensure Shift stays at the top of search rankings. We also designed a new project portfolio section with easy-to-use features, including viewers to toggle, list views, and filters.

Breze Aveda Concept Salon & Spa

A long-term client of Array, Breze Salon & Day Spa is Nanaimo’s only Aveda Concept Salon. With a website over a decade old, they were long due for a digital makeover. Lacking the necessary features to serve their current business needs, we created new functionality on the website to streamline and automate processes, save users time, and create a better, more modern experience for online customers.

Designed for beauty and business, the new website greets visitors with a clean, modern and elegant design and high-quality images. For customers to efficiently book appointments, we made sure booking is clearly accessible with a sticky header that is accessible on every page.

The new web design clearly tells visitors what services the stylists and estheticians offer through custom-illustrated icons for each individual service and a soft, relaxing colour palette. To match the relaxing, soothing vibe of the salon & day spa, we make good use of fluidity with smooth scrolling, white space, and animating elements that reveal as you scroll and hover.
