What’s your favourite part of the process?
Overcoming fear. The weight and pressure to create and conceptualize something that is not here yet. Overcoming the doubt and bringing life and direction to an idea. Seeing how a spark can move through a creative team and take flight. How a “crazy” concept can launch a client’s dream into substance and structure. Developing and nourishing a win-win scenario. It can be absolute magic sometimes.
What do you get up to when you’re not working?
I’m always moving. Ride, run, snowboard, hike, climb—my family says I have a borderline unhealthy relationship with sports. All I know is that I start a bike ride or a run with a cluttered mind and come back a better version of myself. This is why I live on this incredible island. Twelve months of outdoor activity. It’s absolute bliss.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
An explorer, I grew up wild and free on the prairies of rural Manitoba and spent my summers on my grandfather’s farm. He instilled in me the value and importance of nature and our connection to it. I learned early on that the difficult path and the right path are often one and the same. He also taught me that sometimes, getting lost is the best place to be.
