Built on 20 years of shared emergency management service with local governments, partners, and the public, Emergency Management Cowichan (EMC) is a regional service that provides emergency management planning, preparedness, response and recovery for the Municipality of North Cowichan, Towns of Lake Cowichan and Ladysmith, City of Duncan, and the Cowichan Valley Regional District.
In need of an stand-alone website to serve the region, the team at EMC came to us to design and develop a fast, reliable, and user-friendly site that promptly communicates emergencies as they happen and provides accurate information to the public on what to do when they occur. Here’s how we did it.
- Custom Plug-in & Functionality
- Information Architecture Development
- Responsive Website Graphic Design
- Search Engine Optimization
- UI/UX Design
- Visual Identity System
- Website Design & Programming
- Wordpress & Shopify CMS Development
- Our digital marketing team put together a Keyword Analysis and Information Architecture to optimize key pages on the website and ensure they are designed from a user-first perspective. The navigation is intuitive ensuring information is quick and easy to find.
- Using the EMC brand, our web design team laid out key page templates that not only complies with established brand standards, but also communicates complex information in a visually appealing way. To ensure ease of use and readability, the web design scales to any sized device. As an emergency service, we recognized a large volume of visitors would be on mobile devices, making it critical that the site is designed from a mobile-first perspective.
- A vital component of web development was to ensure EMC could post and update important notices to their website front and center. Our web developers programmed a customized system to post emergencies that integrates with Alertable, a third-party source. When a notice is pushed out, posts are categorized by colour coding to indicate urgency. As an emergency unfolds, EMC has the ability to manually create custom notices they can readily push out as needed.
- To enhace the user-experience and support EMC’s internal operations, our web development team programmed custom features such the ability to support interactive maps that showcase evacuation routes, forms that can be submitted directly from the website, a resource library with downloadable PDFS, an emergency directory with click-to-call on mobile, and a past events archiving system.
- The website is custom developed on WordPress empowering EMC to update and manage content on the website in an intuitive, fast, and straightforward manner.
