Our Health, Our Community

Turning regional health data into a community resource with custom website development services.

Location
Cowichan Region

Our Health, Our Community (OHOC) is a first-of-its-kind regional health initiative. As a partnership between Island Health and the Cowichan Communities Health Network, the initiative polled over 3000 Cowichan Valley residents on housing, mental health, substance use, environment, transportation, and more to deliver data insights that could better improve services, programs, and policies across the region.

The challenge was translating complex population health data into something that could be navigated with confidence by a wide audience, from policy partners to parents. Instead of a traditional report, Array offered our custom website development services to design an interactive data website that turns survey results into a community storytelling experience.

How Did We Help Them Out?
  • We began with a discovery process by reviewing existing data and conducting a detailed briefing with OHOC’s team. This gave us a clear picture of who the site needed to serve and how each user would interact with the website.
  • From there, we focused on drafting the Information Architecture, mapping the site’s structure around each user’s journey. The resulting navigation organizes 95 survey questions and 3,459 analyzed responses into nine thematic sections making complex data feel intuitive and easy to digest.
  • Our copywriting team developed all key positioning statements, headlines, and narrative content for the website. Rather than presenting raw survey questions as-is, we rewrote each one into a key takeaway that transformed hard stats from spreadsheets into clear, relatable findings that make it easier for readers to digest. The result is a narrative journey through the data, with guiding statements that connect statistics to real community experience.
  • For web design, our team built a visual system that adapts OHOC’s existing brand for a digital experience, refining colour palettes and typography to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). Infographic-inspired layouts and progressive data reveals make numbers clear and engaging.
  • Our developers programmed a fully custom WordPress website. Key features include up to 30 custom data content sections, animated charts and graphs, interactive data filters, and a downloadable results package, all within a responsive design that works on any device.
  • Accessibility and longevity were critical to site performance. The platform is structured so OHOC’s team can manage and update content independently, with CMS training and a web style guide provided at launch to support their ongoing stewardship of the site.
  • This project won platinum at the 2026 Hermes Creative Awards in the Websites, Mobile & Digital Experiences category for Medical/Healthcare Website.

The finished platform gives the Cowichan region a shared resource that empowers residents, organizations, and decision-makers to explore local health insights and take meaningful action.
