The shíshálh Nation, a self-governing Indigenous community on the Sunshine Coast, is deeply committed to strengthening connection and supporting its people. As their Nation continues to grow, so do the needs of their digital ecosystem. Originally built with external stakeholders in mind, the website needed to evolve into a platform that better supported its members by making information accessible, opportunities visible, and communication easy.

That’s where we came in. Together, we crafted a refreshed web design and custom member portal that balance modern design, intuitive navigation, and practical functionality. The result? A digital hub that not only connects the community but also sets a foundation for long-term digital growth.

How Did We Help Them Out?
  • Every great web design starts with a strategy. We led a discovery session to map out communication priorities, define user journeys, and structure the navigation. This groundwork ensured the new site feels intuitive, guiding Nation members, stakeholders, and the public to the information they need quickly and intuitively.
  • Taking inspiration from the Nation’s logo, we created a web design system that weaves geometric shapes and overlapping elements. These forms create depth, balance, and a three-dimensional effect that echoes the strength and unity of the community.
  • To make the site accessible, we refined the digital colour palette to highlight the Nation’s four core brand colours, balanced with deep charcoal and cream. Fonts were updated for stronger readability, creating a modern look that remains true to the brand.
  • The new homepage acts as both a welcoming gateway and a central hub. Bold, clean, and easy to navigate, it brings Nation stories to the forefront while guiding users to essential resources with clarity and purpose.
  • To optimize the user experience, our web developers streamlined the navigation so members can quickly find what they need. The community calendar was redesigned with a clear legend and category tags. We also moved the careers section into a dedicated space that highlights opportunities and supports the Nation’s efforts to recruit top talent.
  • Our web developers transformed the members portal into a secure progressive web app, giving Nation members mobile-friendly access to resources, FAQs, job postings, and events. Accessible anytime and anywhere on a mobile device, it strengthens engagement and keeps members connected.
  • Real-time communication matters. We integrated push notifications so members are instantly alerted when new events or news are published. Public posts link directly to content, while secure posts prompt members to log in.
  • To empower the Nation’s team, we provided hands-on WordPress training and documentation. This ensures staff can confidently manage content, update information, and keep the site evolving for years to come.
